From the day he was born, food has always been the ultimate comfort for middle-aged bachelor Dominick DiNapoli (Dom DeLuise). But when his obese cousin Sal dies at 39, Dom must finally come to terms with his own weight problem. From quack doctors and harsh diets to his overbearing Italian family and a fanatical support group called ‘The Chubby Checkers’, nothing can come between a man and his manicotti. Could a new love with a neighborhood woman (Candice Azzara of EASY MONEY) finally curb Dominick’s out-of-control appetite or will self-doubt eat away at his last chance for happiness? Ron Carey (HIGH ANXIETY) and Estelle Reiner (WHEN HARRY MET SALLY) co-star in this bittersweet yet delicious comedy written and directed by Anne Bancroft (winner of the 1962 Academy Award® for Best Actress, THE MIRACLE WORKER).

Oldie but a goodie

Who doesn't like Dom DeLuise? Ann Bancroft is excellent in this movie she also directed. The movie may be old but boy can it still make you laugh. Being Italian, I can relate to a lot of the situations but just like w/ Big Fat Greek Wedding, substitute your ethnicity and the movie works for you too!! Funny, funny, funny and a little old fashioned. No nudity, very little swearing and just good clean fun. Recommended to buy!

Obesity, Food Obession, Desperate Measures, Love & Hilarity In A Brooklyn Italian-American Family!!

I first saw this movie at age 16 in 1980, and boy does it still make me
laugh whenever I've seen it throughout the years!
I would argue this as one of the late Dom Deluise's greatest movie performances,
alongside his stuff with Burt Reynolds in the 70's.
I'm going to assume that most of you out there have already seen
this movie at least once, so I'm going to spare you a blow by blow
filled with spoilers, but suffices to say that this movie has plenty
of good belly laughs in it! (-: The interplay between Dom & the actor who plays
his baby brother, who he dotes over is one of the film's highlights.
Anne Bancroft was priceless as the always irrate curmedgeon
of a sister who doesn't know how to communicate her love other than to hit!
She also wrote & directed the whole film, which I didn't find out until years later!
The whole ensemble cast was great in this.
A classic addition to your DVD collection for all time!

"Fatso" is one of the funniest movies I have seen. Anne Bancroft wrote and directed the film which is set in New York City. It is about an Italian American family, their troubles and triumphs in every day life. I think it is a must see and a wonderful way to escape the real world for 90 minutes or so. Dom DeLouise's wide range of talents are truly showcased in this film

We Love Fatso

We've seen this movie about 10 times. It gets better
every time we watch it. We originally saw it in a local
movie theater when it was released. We couldn't stop laughing.
We know all of these characters that Ann Bancroff created. They are our relative & friends.Dom Deluise is perfect for his part. You realize that he loves to eat.You have to accept him for who he is.I highly recommend this movie.
